AS many of you know, I’m a right-wing Conservative Christian, with a streak of Libertarianism in me. I’ve seen the rise of not only ignorance of God’s truth in churches but a failure to address the genuine needs of people whose main fault is being at the wrong place at the wrong time.
The case of the Haiti Earthquake is a prime example. I honestly cannot believe that a once-respected member of the Christian church would dare say such things as he did about those poor people. As a Calvinist and a Christian, I do not believe that things happen by accident and so whether it is an earthquake in California, Iran, or Haiti, or Tsunamis is the Pacific or the Indian oceans, or snow in the Serengeti, God is in charge of these events and brings them about for His purposes, not ours. But where I differ from people like Mr. Robertson and his ilk is that I don’t have the temerity (or I hope, the presumption)to stand on behalf of the Lord, in judgment of others, and say ‘for this reason, this has happened.’
If that were true, then, the entire Middle East, large parts of Africa, Europe, Asia, and even the Americas, would be filled with desolation. And where was the “Prophet Robertson” before this event took place? IF he somehow KNEW that Haiti would be struck in a fit of divine vengeance, why did he not, like a genuine prophet or apostle of old, or even like John the Baptist, go there and warn people to ‘Repent now and seek Christ for the remission of sins, or God will bring disaster upon you on January 12, 2010?” A REAL prophet of the Lord would have said something beforehand, as they did in the past, and given the people a chance to repent, much like Jonah, or Abraham (before the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah), or Moses, to name a few.
Robertson didn’t because he’s not a prophet, that’s why. He’s just a pitiful old man, who perhaps still dreams of the glory days when he was the toast of White House parties and a regular on the Republican mash potato circuit. It’s a sad end he’s come too and I grieve for him because when he had an opportunity to show compassion, as a real Christian would, he got on his creaky old soap box and spewed out his venom against a hurting people.
Well did the Apostle say of this sort of person, pointing out that “If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion [is] vain. Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, [and] to keep himself unspotted from the world.” (James 1:26-27) But it doesn’t stop there, nor can it.
Christ said “… Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.” (Matthew 5:44-45) When told of an incident that befell the Galileans, the Lord said “… Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things? I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem? I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.” (Luke 13:2-5). My hand would type themselves to nubs were I to express further to you the story of many innocent (and not-so innocent) men upon whom God’s wrath fell and for reasons which were not known later, the primary one being Job, but above all Christ Himself, who suffered more than any other man on this earth too.
Were the likes of Robertson, though, extant in the time of these great men (and who’s to say there weren’t?), I’m sure they would find cause to rejoice in their own self-righteousness and slander the innocent on behalf of ‘God’, much like the Pharisees of old. But to them, and others like them, I have only this to add, both as a warning and as a plea: God knows you too, and if such things can befall those upon whom you cast stones, be careful and repent, lest God toss one upon you too. As it is written,” Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.” (Matthew 7:19-23).

Good posts, I read this one and skimmed through a couple of others.
I agree with much, which I find suprising, being that you are a conservative Calvanist Christian and I a conservative Roman Catholic. Although I'm familiar with much of the protestant beliefs, in that, I listen too almost daily, and have been for years the sermons of Adrian Rogers, Charles Stanley, and Billy Graham.
I agree that Mr. Robertson indeed has no right to make that kind of judgment concerning the catastrophe in Haiti. But it is not necessary, in this era, for a preacher like Jonah, or Elijah too fortell of God's judgment to any particular city in an age where the gospel is preached and heard to the entire global community on a daily basis. The voice of the Holy Spirit is everywhere in 2010.
I'm sure that you are well aware that the " kingdoms of this world," are still in the hands of the evil One until our Lord returns, Satan sails a sinking ship and he knows " his time is short."
I do not intend to focus on our very different faiths, but rather something that I recently discovered concerning the evil One and his malevolant pursuit of the souls of men.
However I humbly ask you, please listen to what I have too say, despite how ridiculous it sounds. because I once believed what you believe concerning the right and left wings, rep. vs dem. Obama vs. Bush ect.. I did indeed believe in the terrorist plot in 911, and the just war which insued. But, my brother in Christ, it is all a lie. I never, untill recently, understood the absolute dominion that Satan has on this earth.
Obama and Bush are on the same side. The character that George W. Bush played was right, I agree with the actor, the conservative anti abortion, anti stem cell Christian, but it's an act. The evil One owns this world ( I know that you know this, but trust me in Christ, he owns evryone in power) All government, all media, all film, all merchandise, all commerce, all music, all technology. The sucsessfull branches of course.
continued......
Please, I am not a conspiracy theorist, but the illuminatti, the freemasons, the Luciferians indeed exist and they are not concerned with money ( they have it all) they have a COMPLETELY CONSCIOUS objective.....
Damn as many souls to hell as possible before the Great and terrible day of Judgment.
So for example, Pat Robertson makes a rash and cruel statement concerning the recent earthquake in Haiti, which many belive he did not understand the implications of,and he will indeed regret the comment. Not True.
He knew EXACTLY what he said, and he knew exactly the reaction that it would get and what he said was planned BEFORE this earthquake occurred and the popular left-wing pundits that condemn him are members of the same secret society that has one objective. Damn as many souls to hell before the great and terrible day by getting us to, " believe a lie so that they might all be damned."
Remember when our Lord spoke of Satan calling him the " father of lies," and " a murderer from the beginning."? He murders our souls by deceiving us, for the absence of Truth ( Jesus Christ) within its soul is the 2nd death. Spiritual death. St. Thomas Aquinas always said that, ' For every truth there is a multitude of errors.' And if we think that the devil hasnt or cant fool us we are fooled, only through strenuous prayer, mortification and devotion to our Lord can we remain free of a world immersed in error and confusion.
anyways, I wrote too much! God bless you! I humbly pray, please at least take into consideration what I said.
Once one realizes that every catastrophe and crisis ( even an
earthquake!) are engineered by human and fallen angelic intelligence, from 911 to the Hurricane Katrina, and the solutions that these same individuals then offer to the millions of souls, one will see. It is all one big drama. As we children of God have a CONSCIOUS objective to save souls, there are children of darkness who have CONSCIOUS objective to damn souls. And there " father" is still running this world, and we are intruders.
I understand and appreciate your comments Angelopeter. My objection is Biblical though. It is really not my issue what the Father has pre-ordained for the world, I accept all of that. What I object too is self-righteous goons like Pat Robertson who come in expostfacto and claim "THIS" is the reason for what transpired, when they were not privy to the councils of God. AS it is written,s “… Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.” (Matthew 5:44-45) and “… Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things? I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem? I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.” (Luke 13:2-5).
IF Robertson was a real prophet of God HE WOULD HAVE gone to Haitians and said "ON THIS DAY GOD WILL DEVESTATE YOUR COUNTRY UNLESS YOU REPENT." That is the marking of a True Prophet and man of God. He did nothing. He never stepped foot in Haiti and never even felt 'led' by God to warn them from abroad. Instead he opened his mouth and out poured his self-righteousness, presuming to speak for God in saying it was SPECIFICALLY for this SIN that Haiti was detroyed!
I RESENT that! God DID NOT SPEAK TO THIS BABOON and probably never did, EITHER! Because of that, Robertson should have said 'yes, God brought this upon Haiti, but I don't know why. Let us fear then, the Lord, and tremble, and then let us do the Christian thing and help them."
IF and WHEN God speaks to a person like Robertson (not that can imagine the Lord wasting time with such a person), or any man, let that man go forth and proclaim both WHAT the Lord said, and SPECIFICALLY what will happen and WHEN. If it comes to pass, then that man IS a man of God! IF it doesn't or they have the temerity to say, expostfacto, what happened, then they are not of God but speaking out of their own mouths. And I believe God will punish such as them, as they so richly deserve for daring to speak on behalf of God when He never told them too!
